Prasarana Launched RM 2 Billion Sukuk

Malaysian state-owned public transport operator Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd has opened books on its dual-tranche 2 billion ringgit sukuk Murabahah on Tuesday, according to IFR Asia.

The issue is already 100 per cent oversubscribed and pricing is expected to be finalided at the end of the day, said IFR. CIMB Group Holdings Bhd is managing the 1 billion 15-year Malaysian ringgit portion, while Kenanga Investment Bank and RHB Investment Bank Bhd are the joint lead managers on a 1 billion ringgit ten-year tranche.

Funds raised from the sukuk will go towards extending part of the country's light rail transit (LRT) network. The project is listed as one of the National Key Result Areas (NKRA), aimed at transforming public transport services.

Prasarana had issued contracts worth of 4.5 billion ringgit as of March for this purpose. It recently awarded a 955 million ringgit contract to a joint venture comprising George Kent (Malaysia) Bhd and Lion Pacific earlier this month. — Reuters
